Aika Aikawa

This is Aika Aikawa from Alice Gear Aegis. It is a scale model kit made in collaboration with Kotobukiya Megami Device and Alice Gear Aegis. She is also the first loli series from Megami Device and she is a cutie.

I was a bit surprised when they announced this, but in the end, this kit ends up being a great kit. I just wish I hadn't messed it up while painting it.

Here is the box art

Typical Megami Device box art with cute drawing of Aika.

And here is the instruction manual. same picture in the front.
More pictures inside with basic color guide and sticker guide.

This kit includes very small water slide decals.

The kit includes some clear parts for the effect and the stand. It's the same as the previous kit from Megami Devic X Alice Gear Aegis except for that large ring thing.

The hands are in molded rubber thing like others.

Speaking of hands, it includes these pair of hands made in plastic. It's for holding a hammer and it can hold the weight.

Here are all the pre-painted parts.

One part I didn't like was this gold/copper color part. Its the usual ugly yellow that shows a lot of imperfection.

The other parts were great like these hair parts. Great color and great molding.

Except I found two 'C' runners. Not sure what is going on.

Building this kit was easy. Instructions were clear and well laid out. Some parts did require extra handling and some parts the nub marks were hard to clean due to its location, but with careful building, it didn't take long.

I gotta say, Kotobukiya did a great job presenting child like innocence of Aika. I mean look at these.

Cute. Kotobukiya also held back and didn't overly sexualize her, and I like it. Just simple cute loli doing loli things.

But, she is from Alice Gear Aegis. So she has armor for fighting.

Honestly though, It's not bad.

I am disappointed at the blue connection for her floating guns. It should be clear.

Still, its a very solid kit, with good color separation which looks great even without painting, and it can pull off some awesome dynamic poses.

I did find her hip joints to be limiting though. Unlike the newer Frame Arms Girl kits, The hip joint is really simple and doesn't have a lot of range of motion. Still, it's one solid kit.

Oh did I mention, she has a hammer? A large hammer. I had a lot of fun posing her with it.

That extra plastic hand for holding the hammer really helps with posing. She can hold that giant hammer without any issues.

Aika gets really wild with that hammer.

Then I painted it and screwed up the kit.

I used Lacquer paint, and the painting itself wasn't bad, although I did mess up here and there with shading. The problem I got into was that the parts were already solid fitting parts, and with paints on it, that tight-fitting is not impossible fit and when posing, stuff gets scratched everywhere. In fact, I couldn't pose it well in fear of parts breaking.

I also modified few parts to make painting easier, like her shoulder and her skirt, and in the end, it backfired on me as it is not loose and weak, she can no longer hold the hammer on her own.

I also screwed up the water slide decals for her eyes. It's not aligned properly, so she got some issues..

To make it worst, My camera decided to take some of the pictures like it was over exposed... Not sure what's going on.

She is still cute though.

Anyway, This was a fun build. Some parts were hard to clean, and some small parts are really hard to handle, but in the end, the results were a fantastic and cute looking loli, that you can't help but go Awwwwweeeeeeee. The painting is not really needed. It does make the kit look great, but the trade-in is that it's harder to pose. You can get away by simply painting a few extra details for color correction and it would still look great. For the price, I think this is a great kit, and I recommend it.

Also, I learned my lesson about painting. I won't make the same mistake with Ayaka.
