GK resin kit. Sailor Mercury

After building couple of Frame Arms Girls. I wanted to try my hands on Garage Kits, or resin kits. I was never really interested in them considering their price, however I thought I try out some. Internet search quickly guided me to http://www.shop2000.com.tw/GK-M where the price seems to be okay. I bought few products that seems to be easy. The first one is my favorite Sailor Mercury.

For my first resin kit I think it came out okay.

The kit came inside a small cardboard box with a picture of the finished product on outside.

The resin parts are packaged in bubble wrap for any possible damage.

The parts are also placed inside a small bag so it would not get lost.

The package also included a piece of paper of painted product.

And another paper showing all the parts.

Oh and it also included the water slide decals. These are low quality decals. They are not pre-cut, meaning its one giant sheet of decal and you need to cut it to shape. They also rip easy. I had alot of trouble handling this decal.

I am not sure what the high resin part is suppose to be like. I have never worked with resin before. However I did notice that there were no bubble holes, and once I soaked in cleaners for 24 hours, primers went on easy and it painted smoothly. It needed minimal sanding and I only had to worry about minor flash marks what was caused during casting. It was very frustration free build.

Here are the pictures of the finished product.

The kit was primed with AK primer (Airbrushed on) and painted using Walmart brand paints. the pearl effect was done using Testors Aztek Pearl Airbrush paint. I think the pearl effect worked very well.

Building a garage kit was very different from building Gundam plastic kits. Small things like sanding, filling, heat bending, and even glue made all the difference. The painting part required more concentration and I can't really just spray the paint on. There are no color separations so I had to plan ahead and mask or brush the details. There are alot of fine details that you don't get on Gundam kits. Small paint details make all the difference.

I used the eye decals on this kit. I have heard that eyes makes the all the difference and they were right. The mistakes on the eye just pops out and I regret using the decals.

I enjoyed building my first resin kit. I am going to build some more. I also recommend GK-M for resin kit purchases. The price appears to be decent and the packages arrived quickly and safely.
