Megami Device Chaos & Pretty Witch

Chaos's & Pretty line of Kotobukiya's famous Megami Device line is probably their least popular model kits. Having built them, I can see why. It doesn't really have the magic the previous ones such as their Asra lines have.

To spice up their sexiness, I purchased aftermarket body parts. It is a resin recast from GK-M. I gotta say, it still doesn't have that magic, but it looks dang good.

Before I start about this kit, let me vent. I started this build last year and it has been nothing but serious of bad lucks. Missing parts, Corrupted files, lost manual, broken parts. I gave up halfway, but somehow I pulled through. The kit isn't bad by any means, but man these bad lucks really pulled me away from this kit.

Okay, venting done.

Let's start with box art.

It's a simple Megami Device box with a picture of the witch. I don't know why, but that character picture just isn't as attractive as other Megami Device kits. Maybe it's the color? I am not sure.

Here is the picture of the manual. It has high-quality pictures and instruction is well laid out.

Some images of the finished product.

Paint and sticker guide.

This kit comes with two sets of decals. One is a sticker and another is water slide decals.
And this is where I noticed a problem with this kit. Yes, those are color correction stickers. Kotobukiya generally doesn't have color correction stickers.

As usual, There are some pre-painted parts. 3 face plates and a neck piece.

This kit includes two sets of pairs of hands. One in skin tone and the other in purple color.

And here is the main attraction of this kit. The effect parts. It has a lot of effect parts that allow you to create some awesome action poses.

The build was the same as other Megami Device kits. A lot of small and delicate parts. Some clear parts like the eyes on the hat and the star on the chest piece start to fly away, but it wasn't that huge of an issue. Some parts were hard to clean, but most parts, didn't have a lot of surface details, so Sanding wasn't a big issue. There weren't any complex parts so it was a rather quick build following the instructions.

This is where I show the pictures of the out-of-box build, but those were in corrupted SD cards and I wasn't able to save them.

The other part I got for this kit is resin part from GK-M.

It is actually a recast of the Kotobukiya option parts set. I believe it was Options Parts set 009 for Chaos & Pretty Darkness. I don't think Kotobukiya sold those in the US, and the only real way for us to get those are through recast sights.

sigh...

The resin part was small and very finicky to work with. The small parts were a pain to work with. It is a recast, so it had a lot of problems. I had to heat band here and there, and a lot of clean-up was needed for it to work properly. The colors don't match either, so it needs to be painted. Either way, this resin recast won't work as out of box build and it needs extra skills as a modeler to make it work.

Here are the pictures of the kit with the resin part installed. You can clearly see the color difference. It also comes with two chest parts. One flat and one Oppai.

I painted this kit using Mr. Color Lacquer paint and Gaia Lacquer paint. The skin tone was Lascivus paint. Due to the resin  kit, it had a lot of scraping issue so I had to sand it multiple times and paint over and over again, but I think the end result came out okay.

Here are the pictures of the finished kit. The first ones are the ones without the armor.

This is also where I show you the kit in various poses, but no. A couple of joints broke so she is now a statue. She can't pose at all because I superglued all the broken joints after.

But I was able to get some shots in her armored form and was able to get some simple poses before the rest of her joints disintegrated.

I think the asking tone came out great, but the finished product still looks off. I think it's the skirt. The early Megami Device didn't really have great proportion, with a long torso, (Which are fixed on modern Megami Device kits with replaced shoulder part. ) and I think that awkward-looking skirt made it worst.

So is this kit worth it? Yes. While the finished kit looks weird, this is still the kit that includes bare arm and leg. Not to mentions, all the effect parts make this kit fun to pose. I would still recommend this kit.
