A.T.K. Girl Heracross is a kit that changed my mind about Chinese model kits. It still had a few fitment issues, but overall it was a good kit. So much so, I bought the Serqet, this time with full intent to paint this kit.
It took a while to fully paint this, but I gotta say, it is an impressive kit.
This kit also included this sailer uniform. Not sure if it is part of the kit or part of the special edition. There were conflicting statements online. Not really needed, but welcome addition.
For example, look at this clear part. Clear parts are usually the best way to see poor casting but these ones are clear, well-sculpted, and clear of bubbles.
Addition to clear parts, It had this coated part which gives beautiful metallic purple color.
This also had a small sheet of water slide decals for her eyes. However, the sticker sheet says A.T.K. Girl 01 v2. I am guessing they are just reusing Arachne parts.
Some jewel sticker.
3 different painted faces. Print quality isn't that great but it's usable. The sculpting, however, was vastly superior to the Heracross kits.
Alot of hands. They are molded in soft rubber-like material. Had some molding marks and they were little hard to clean.
As of the rest of the parts, they were sculpted well, with great color.
It did have three runners of same hair though.
Building this kit was a chore. Instruction was clear enough for me to understand, without translating the words. However, some parts were undergated in a weird location so it was hard to clean in most cases. The plastic was an okay quality so filing and sanding weren't much of an issue, and fitment was okay. At least I didn't have to cut the pegs to make it fit. There were a few parts that left a large panel gap, but most of them were fixable with plastic glue and brute strength. I did have a few parts on her stinger, where there were some molding issues, so the part looked like it was melting. Looking at other kits, it does look like not everyone has this issue. I also had to cut out some parts on her claw to make it fit properly.
As of the rest of the parts, they were sculpted well, with great color.
All the joints fit properly. I didn't have to do any adjustments and all the joints fit and move properly while it had enough pressure to hold itself.
What made this kit a real chore was all the small parts. There were alot of small parts of the same shape that are hard to cut out and clean, not to mention fit together. But with enough patience, it was doable.
It felt like forever but I was able to finish this.
Her scorpion attaches to her as well, making her armor look epic once complete.
Honestly, This kit looks so good even for OOB, I didn't want to paint this. But I promised myself to paint this. So I did.
It took a bit of time, but I was able to close all her panel gap except on her torso. I left that alone because I wanted to paint it separately, but that ended up being a mistake since, after painting, it was hard to close those gap. All the joints were taped off as well. I also used Lacquer paint for this kit. These mecha musume kits like to scrape everywhere so lacquer paint is a must. I used either Splash paint and Mr. Color for this kit. As for painting, aside form the small parts, I didn't have many issues.
Here is the finished kit. First the unarmored version.
And then her armor-on version. That dark purple goes well with clear purple. That sinister smile under the mask really brings this kit out as well. I gave it a very exaggerated shading on her purple armor, and on pictures, it looks really good.
Oh, I forgot to mention, this kit has a great-looking stand. It is solid and works well with her logo printed on it. It does break if you are not careful though.
And her pet scorpion. That dark shading made it look more sinister and those clear parts really pops out. Overall they look great together.
And here is everything together. Her final form.
I love how she came out. The shading made her dark part really sinister, and it brought out her cool factor alot more.
I had fun building this kit. Yes, it was a chore, and alot of the time, I just wanted to quit, but still, the satisfaction I got, in the end, was genuine. I would recommend this kit if you can find it. From what I understand is that Eastern Model is going to stop printing this kit.
Also, I lost alot of video footage so I won't be able to make the usual 'Let's Build' video.
