HG XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe

I am one of the people who was overjoyed when Bandai began making High-Grade kits from the Gundam Wing series. The original High-Grade kits are getting old and master Grade kits, while great, are not anime accurate. Following their awesome Gundam Heavyarms, I built their next release, Gundam Deathwcythe.

Like the Heavyarms, this kit did not disappoint. This is a great kit.

Starting from the box art. It is the usual Bandai HG box art. It has an cool picture of the Deathscythe with their usual 'hint' on the background.

This kit does not have a lot of parts. However, the parts are well sculpted and the plastic is high quality.

It includes a small sheet of foil stickers which are color-correcting stickers.

What surprised me was this effect part. It was very vibrant and it really stood out.

Here is the picture of the instruction manual. It has a finished product in the front with a few action poses in the back as well as the color guide. The instruction was well laid out and it was easy to understand with clear pictures and directions. It also has English translation although it is not needed due to easy-to-read pictures.

Building the kit was easy. Parts were easy to take out and the nub was located great place so it was easy to clean and it hides it well. Some parts create a large gap and it does show its ugly side when fully built, but still, it was an easy and fun build.

Here are the pictures of the finished kit.

Color separating is good and it has a good proportion while keeping with the anime look. It is not overly detailed, and it is simple but it works well here. There is always a master-grade kit if you want details with a more realism style. It did require a bit more cleaning than the usual high-grade kit to make it look clean, but it did not hinder the overall fun of the build.

Here are the pictures with his iconic scythe. That effect part really pops out.

The kit poses well as well. It does have a few problems on its ankle and hip but it doesn't ruin the kit. Most importantly, It fixed the shoulder part. The vernier on the shoulder flips up, allowing the arm to pull up. Because of this, this kit can pose really well. Here are a few pictures.

And who can forget that Buster Shield? Yes, it has a 3mm hold on the bottom so you can add it to a stand for that flying look and it has that effect part.

For painting, I keep it simple. I used Splash Paint for this. I was a bit skeptical about this new paint, but I am using it a lot due to its cheap price and convenience. I did use my usual shading technique and I think it came out well. Here are the pictures.

The kit did not disappoint me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a great weekend project. Cheap fun and easy to build with great looks and proportions. I recommend this kit.
